The Bunny's Are Coming! The Bunny's Are Coming!

There's places to go, people to see and plenty of excitement at the new Rare Rabbits Designs studio.
It's been a long time in the making and now the big day is here! The bunnies and I are finally all moved in to our new studio (well, almost all) and little 6,1/2 inch tall Bella Bunny's on her way to Rare Rabbits Designs, Etsy Shop.
With her lovely hand embroidered flower hare-band
and favourite tiny toy Miss Mousey,
she can hardly wait to be the first to sit in Rare Rabbits Designs shop window.
Come for a visit, bunnies love company.

Dog Walking Time

The nice thing about working for yourself is the flexibility and most days I stop what I'm doing to take puppy for a romp. We have a beautiful provincial park near our house where my husband and I like to walk.
It's such a peaceful setting and right across the street was this monster of a machine that I have no idea what it is but I just loved it. I never noticed it before because I'm always so busy trying to find something pretty to photograph.
The rust and hard structure of it made me look for more of that kind of beauty which I found on the locking gate posts in the park.
I tried sticking to my hunt of structured objects but in the woods every thing turns organic sooner or later. I found these mossy rails. Even though it is a fence and a structure, I see I can't help falling back into my old pattern of soft and pretty. It reminds me of a line in a story I wrote on a camping trip we took.
The woods are soft and fragrant with the cleverness of cougars, keeping me rooted and sharp in its timber.
Ever since I took an online blogging course, I've been practicing my photography methods. Here I've tried to duplicate the blurry backgrounds I so adore in the professional photos I see. I can do it occasionally at best. I think if I had a better camera, one that enables super close, closeups I'd be happy. I want to get so close as to capture a dew drop.
I wish I knew what I was doing when I do manage to catch it. Usually I end up with the opposite of what I want, a blurry foreground and clear background.
Sometimes it works,
like it did with my forget-me-nots.
Mostly it doesn't. Oh well, back to the drawing board and my studio. Bunnies await.

Playing in the Yard

The first really warm spring day we've had here and I just couldn't stay indoors and work even though I have so much to do, it's supposed to rain tomorrow so I'll get back at it then. I usually take one day a week off anyway, I'd rather it was a rainy day than a sunny one. I had big plans for today and finishing my dear, Great Aunt Grace's bunnies was one of them. She's 92 years old and lives in New Brunswick. I was so pleased to get her order, Rabbit Hood and Maid Marian.

And something else very exciting happened the other day. Clare thinks every day is exciting, such a lovely doggy smile!
I was asked to be part of a women's expo show on June 4th. I have no idea how to prepare for it though, which kind of worries me. Like how my table is supposed to look.

I thought about it a lot while I was wandering through my yard. How much change do I bring? Do I incorporate tax into the final price and round it off so there aren't a bunch of nickels and dimes flying around? What if my mind goes blank while I'm counting out their change? Where do I buy the bags to put customer merchandise in?

Of course I'll need a pretty table cloth, and what about a sign that says Rare Rabbits Designs?
What if I don't have enough stuff? I'll take orders if it comes to that, but I sure don't want to look unprofessional. Standing there like an idiot with 1 bunny comes to mind.

I'll need to get a lot of greeting cards printed and book marks made between now and then. I could probably finish about 100 tasseled book marks, 2-3 an evening should do it. And somewhere in there I need to draw another design so I have at least 2 styles of bookmarks to present. The little bunnies I'm working on were intended to be the first 2 listings for my new Etsy shop. I don't know, now. Though I don't see how I can wait another 6 weeks before I list anything in my shop. Oh well, I'll figure it out Monday. Then there's my YA novel, Tale of the Black Mamba. This was the month I was going to start submitting again, Amazon just delivered my writer's market book.

I think I'll just take it minute by minute. Tonight I'll make a schedule and stick to it. I often work best under pressure, or so my mother says. I suppose the worst that could happen is I never do it again. But I so want to succeed and be part of that world with all those creative people.

I kind of thought having my own business was going to be slow and easy. You know, get in my studio and just create. It's much harder than I that. Oh, for the simple life of a caterpillar...

or a magnolia blossom.

Flowers in my Garden

Taking a break to enjoy some new flowers in my garden. It's so nice to finally see the end of winter.

Beautiful Bluebells, a favourite of mine. I can hardly wait for the Lily of the Valley.

Delightful Daffodils with their frilly orange skirts.

Pretty Forsythia, makes me think of flower fairies. I always expect to see one sitting in the branches

Dainty Buttercups and Forget-me-nots, my most dear. My cookbook was full of them pressed flat when the kids were little.

Miss Mousy, resting on a Forget-me-not leaf waiting for her bunny pal little Odette, to get her head on straight.
Break time's over.

Where Have all the Bunnies Gone?

Little Jinx is dressed in her Easter best.

Though she's got a bee in her bonnet wondering where everybunny got to.

I stitched her flowered hairband with silk ribbon and ribbon embroidery techniques I've been practising. The little bee, I knitted using 2 strands of embroidery floss and 00.75 mm knitting needles. They're the size of long pins. I love them!

The Mighty Hare Band

We defy you to find a group merrier or hare-ier than us!

Who says girls can't be Merry Hares?

Packed and ready to go. Bye Bunnies, don't forget to write.

Just finished my Rabbit Hood for a customer. He turned out really cute!

I'm so pleased, it looks like I'll be answering this ad starting tomorrow.

Hooray for Floor Day!

Well, it's here, Floor Day! Or should I say days. My husband was on holidays last week and we finally got to the most crucial part of my new studio, the floor. I was in charge of keeping him company and the channel changer. But I didn't just do that, I also finished up my little Robin Hood rabbit and we enjoyed some great old movies while he worked. Yesterday it was, Some Came Running, starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Shirley MacLaine.

David chose some lovely cork underlay so I wouldn't have to start my day on icy cold concrete. We were contemplating just painting it, but I'm so glad we were able to find such a good deal on this laminate flooring.

Almost ready for the baseboards! He thinks I'll be moving in by next weekend. Yippee!

Here's my sweet David hard at work in front of the beautiful south facing window he installed. It's huge, 4'X5'. The used building supply store has nice white blinds that will work perfectly. This is where he's at his happiest, renovating and gardening. It was so pleasant having him home. He'll be retiring in about 7 weeks after 35 long years working in a big bakery plant, and we're counting down the days.

We stopped for a snack of strawberries and I used a small square of floor and the only sun patch I'd seen in a week for my background.

Pretty flowers on the new window ledge. This summer, the garden outside will be filled with hostas, impatiens and butterflies.

I can hardly wait to get in there and start working. No more digging through boxes for what I need. It'll be so great to have supplies at my fingertips. These beautiful tulips really make me crazy to splash around with my water colour paints. Every night before bed, I go down and drool over my emerging studio. I'm so anxious I can hardly stand it.
